The concept of risk is fundamental in many fields, especially in medical research where it is used frequently in both clinical trials and epidemiological studies. Examples of this include statements such as "statins reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular disease" and "BMI is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes". In this presentation, we will discuss the concept of risk from a statistical perspective. Some central themes include: “How do statistics lie?”, “Association or causality?” and "How do you see the invisible?". Furthermore, we will touch on related concepts such as absolute risk, relative risk, biomarkers, odds ratio, hazard ratio and exemplify with a comparison between Titanic and. Estonia.
The Seminar will be in Swedish
